I was instantly hooked from episode 1, which is quite rare for me nowadays. I couldn't stop and kept wanting to watch more! I love how it starts from when the characters were young, so you could really feel and experience how they grew up. This drama has a lot of scenes involving motherly love, and those were the ones that made me cry nonstop. I also love how it shows Tak Goo find his dream in life, and watching him pursue it was amazing! The baking scenes were really fun to watch. The cast is excellent, I couldn't of asked for a better casting selection! They all were great, and really portrayed their true characters.
Full of both heartbreaking and also happy moments. I probably cried in almost every episode of this drama. I would always have red and puffy eyes after. But I personally love dramas that make me cry buckets! I would not hesitate to watch it again. So again, I highly recommend this drama!

The cast - I've gotta give props to the actors. I think each member of the cast did a really good job of portraying their character and fulfilling the role that they were given. Even when their characters actions crossed far over the line of believability I thought that the good acting compensated fairly well for the areas of poor writing. I was specifically captivated by Joo Won's acting despite my frustrations with the way his character was written. His acting was really entertaining and I definitely think he did his best to salvage his character. But after about halfway or more into the drama his character became too frustratingly unrealistic and I felt like screaming at Ma Joon way more than a few times. Yoon Shi Yoon's character, Tak Goo, was like an adorable beam of light. His character's fun loving nature was captivating and encouraging when other characters had me climbing up a wall. But unfortunately there came a point when even precious Tak Goo became too dense/oblivious for me to handle. Eugene's character, Yu Kyung, was very interesting to watch and I enjoyed her character's journey throughout most of the drama even if I sometimes despised her. Lee Young Ah. Her character frustrates me only in the fact that I think she was extremely under developed and underused. She seemed to get left in the dust along with a few other side characters, but as she was a main cast that really bothered me. It almost felt like the writers forgot about her later on in the drama.
Story/plot - Honestly I thought it was a pretty interesting story but as I suspected when I saw the episode count, they simply drag it out too long. It starts out pretty strong and continues that way for quite awhile but not for long enough. I liked the issues this drama dealt with though, particularly favoritism and jealousy. This drama probably could have been vastly improved if just condensed to 20 episodes, or even 25 episodes would have been much better. After episode 25 I almost dropped it a few times, but I was so close that I stuck it out. Ma Joon and Yu Kyung's interactions were one of the main components of this drama that really kept my interest going though, even when I was all about done. After 20 episodes there were a lot more poorly written parts than well written parts. Many of the conflicts dragged on way longer than they should have and when they were about to be resolved, the characters suddenly/unrealistically flip flopped in their behavior and hence, the conflict was dragged on even longer. Sometimes kdrama characters can be exaggerated but for this drama many of the characters stepped outside the realm of believability for far too long.
Overall- In conclusion I enjoyed King of Baking, Kim Tak Goo, it's heartwarming and intense and it made me cry. So yes, I'd recommend it, but you'd better be prepared to pull your hair out a few times.

-First of all for receiving such a low budget, the drama was amazingly done. The actors are not were not very famous at the beginning of the show but the popularity of the drama shows how amazing it is.
-The story was not the most unique story i have ever seen but still, the development of the story was one of the things that kept me going, because it keeps you on the edge at any time...Plus it never gets dragged around which is for me very important. But because the story is an important aspect,it lowers the dramas "re-watch value" because i believe to watch it again wouldn't be as fun, because you the suspense would be gone.
-The music was just amazing. No words can be said at that.

Characters i have never imagined that a single person could face so much hard ship and still keep going. Me by just watching it i felt sp frustrated for the characters i almost broke my laptop lol. Ta Kau was just truly an amazing character he came back when ever he got dropped. In Sook if you think Gu Jun Pyo mother was evil loool think again this woman was just there are no words to describe her evilness. Ma Jun, what kind of person can be so spitfull, angry, bitter, emotional wreck and still act like human? be the judge of it once your done. Yuk Shinn i DId NOT LIKE HER end of you will know what i mean.
Plot: it was dramatic, every single ep there was misery, twists, laugh, anger. while watching this drama i felt all the emotions under the sun and almost gave up because i got so angry at the writer, some of the events were just unreal, then again it a K-drama of course you was gone get twists and the lot.
Music, only like one song to be honest they could have done better.
Overall, if you are an impatient person dont bother because you gone end up breaking something, as the story develops relay slowly and you will get bothered by the events happening. for me it has defo gone up to my top 10 K-drmas glad i kept on going. :)

Cast/ Characters- The actor that plays Tak Gu is really a good actor. He had a nice balance between funny and emotional. The actor that plays his brother was kind of scary the whole time. He did make you feel sorry for him but man they could have written him a little less pathetic. Eugene acted her role really well but I despised her character. The supporting cast did a great job in thier acting.
Music- Very nice score. Goes well with the scenes.
Overall- 30 episodes seem a lot to invest but the episodes go by fast and the storylines are interesting to watch. Theres definitely room for improvement though...

I found the drama started off interestingly, but tapered off in the middle in terms of action. Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention, but I thought some of the plot points went unaddressed at the end. I was hoping for more resolution with some of the characters...especially the President/Father and the evil Mother.
I didn't like most of the characters. I thought they had a lot of potential, but were wasted in the end. For example, the second sister, Ja Rim, doesn't do much in the drama. I was waiting for her to support Tak Gu, or even help out her family, or side with Yoo Kyung....but nothing. :(
This show has a lot of baking in it. I don't even like bread that much, but watching all the characters baking and eating made me hungry! I love that the hero works so hard. The one thing I didn't understand is that after the third timeskip (after Tak Gu has spent 2 years at the bakery) - how come he still doesn't know how to bake? Also, he just magically got along with Jin Gu, despite hating him for what he did? I don't get it.
The drama was good overall. I watched it because it came with high recommendations from my sister. I did fast-forward through some scenes in the middle, so I wasn't completely happy with the pacing. But if you want a light melodrama and if you like bread, give this one a try! :D

I'm glad they've kept the childhood story longer till 6 episodes as I've enjoyed the young Tak Goo. Yoon Shi Yoon & Joo Won being fresh actors here were evident but it's all pleasantly tolerable and they've even nailed some pretty heavy scenes. Joo Won, Eugene, & Jun Kwang Ryul benefited on good characterization, unluckily for Lee Young Ah who was under-utilized and her character was under-developed. I couldn't completely buy the characterization of the adult Tak Goo and several plot points weren't convincing which were obviously integrated to sell to an audience.
The music were mostly in the background, or at least nothing to rave about, so I'd say it wasn't much noticeable. Having experienced nothing spectacular or awe-inspiring, I don't see much worth in re-watching this.

The story is full of birth secrets, accidents and dramatic faces but that's what makes melodramas what they are, right? The characters were relatable and even though I hated some characters until the very end, most of them redeemed themselves. The main character is like in most dramas - an optimist who never gives up. The actors did a wonderful job and I have nothing to blame them for.
The OST's were great, I loved how the music expressed the scene's mood very well. I'm thinking of downloading a few of the tracks myself.
Overall, it's a really good drama. A must-watch dare I say. It shows a lot of different values like family, friendship and even that you should live for yourself, not for others. The ending was amazing, there are only few dramas that have such satisfying endings.
P.s. I watched this drama in two days, so DO NOT watch it if you are busy. hehe.

As a melodrama, family and food genre of drama I can say this is one of the best drama I've ever seen. How the writer directed the scenario to the way that combines the elements of melodrama and family genres was fantastic. Every episode makes you hate the evil but at the same time gives you the hope that good exists. The main character was legendary, one of the best if not the best, gives you hope and noway you will hate it or just sympathize with it but, you will love it and be proud. Of course, I loved the professional way of the food genre. That makes me certain hoe the team work of the drama searched and learned about bread and food which is non common genre.
As a romance genre of drama it's really the worst because there's one character I think it's stupid and cant be understand-ed which is Shin Yu Kyung. She sold her savior Kim Tak Goo seeking revenge which is also not understandable. I admit she received hate and injustice but, even though, at the end she started to adapt with Goo Ma Jun. That's really weird and I really hated it. I think the writer wanted to show how The male lead Kim Tak Goo will respond to the different obstacles but, by this way he ruined the romance element. From my view I'd prefer to delete the character of Shin Yu Kyung as I think it's worse that the bad guys in drama.
I wont watch this drama again because Iam interested in romance genre as the main genre but this drama is romance frustrating.
Of course all of this is just my opinion.
Have a good watch if you decided to.

Frustrating drama, needed more bread scenes
This drama is from 2010 and "feels" like a dated soap opera. It has all the usual tropes - Evil Chaebol wife unable to conceive a son, getting one from an affair, workaholic father, bastard son (and mother who was the Chaebol's love interest in their youth), meddling Mother in Law, Smart daughter, Dumb daughter, Beaten daughter, over optimistic super talented Gary Sue male lead, resentful brother, all of it. It's Drama with a capital D. Nothing original, but the dramatic effect scenes were all shot and played well within the script. There are some serious and unbelievable plot holes that kill the rating for this show.
1. I hate the script writer for contriving situations where no normal sane human being would react that way. For example when the mother and father reunite, he doesn't tell her that their son is alive. And she never asks. HOW? That should be the initial number 1 question considering both parents repeatedly profess to love the bastard son.
2. The father and mother are portrayed as being Stupider than stupid, constantly being manipulated by the bad guys and being unable to learn from their mistakes. The mother reveals herself by falling for a "meeting your son" trap despite being counseled by her friends not to fall into the trap. Stupid stupid stupid. Every time I think it can't get any worse they do something even more stupid than before. Crazy stupid.
3. The gifted genius smell baker, Kim Tak Gu, has no choice but to be stupid considering he inherited a double does of stupid from both parents. He goes through life like Forrest Gump, oblivious due to his stupidity, and yet being lucky enough to always somehow escape from bad situations unscathed. UNBELIEVABLE. He speaks as if he's shouting at everybody, which he is doing. Dude, this isn't the army and you're not Forrest Gump. This shout talk would get old and people would actually start hating him for his speech problems.
4. The Chaebol wife can't move on and is constantly slapping various people, none of whom ever press assault charges.
5. There's not enough baking to call this show King of Baking.
There were a few saving graces
1. The acting was great. Especially by the "child" actors, Grandma, Artisan Baker Palbong, Mr Han (the villain), the step mother and that convict turned baker deserve special praise.
2. Fashion, jewelry and hair are on point. Mrs. Gu wore a particularly attractive black and white patterned jacket that looked classy and designer. Her clothes were fantastic except for that one outfit which looked like it had plastic flowers pasted on to the blouse / skirt, just bleargh.
3. There is a satisfying conclusion.
Overall if you can handle insanely unrealistic drama where people can't communicate to save their lives (which literally in some cases communication could have saved a lifetime of trouble) and want some minimal food porn, this might be for you. I kind of regretted watching it all but couldn't stop due to the "trainwreck" nature of this series.
