They were both directed by Derek Tsang, Zhou Dong Yu plays the main character and they kind of have a similar vibe to me.

Although the characters aren’t very similar… the young, desperate love between two people who have been completely failed by society is so similar.

These chinese movies are extremely similar. If you liked one, you'll definitely enjoy the other. They are by far my favorite chinese movies.

Both tell the story of a poor, homeless boy hiding from the police and living a difficult life who meets someone that changes his life, a little kid in Stand by Me and a high school girl in Better Days.

Both star a member of the TFBoys in the leading role. Jackson Yee for BD and Karry Wang for SBM.

They share a similar bleak cinematography style.

Both are sad, emotional stories with a glimmer of hope.

Both have superbe acting.

Both feature a woman falling in love with a bad guy who she shouldn’t like…………………….

Both feature bullying. One of the characters ends up being the body guard for another student who is being bullied. Although love isn’t too prevalent, the two boys end up being really the only ones who understand each other.

Both are dark and realistic stories of high schoolers.
Bittersweet
Heart-wrenching
Intense characters

Better Days is a much better movie, but the two relationships I feel are a little similar. Both "couples" are people in need of each other and they change each other.

Both of them are about high school violence, about the brutal life and dark side of educational system in east asian countries like China and South Korea. These movies leave an hard emotional impact so be prepare .

School bullying. A girl that gets help from someone who is a dropout and kinda seen as the "bad one" and a sort of revenge towards the bullies. Both dramas are very well done and have a surprising ending. The theme itself is quite similar as well.

Both are heavy subjects in which the FL endures something horrible and the ML tries to protect her, ending up in prison.

Both deal with a FL that suffers from bullying at school. In Better days, the ML is around the same age as the FL. Better Days is much darker and grittier in tone though.

Both had:
-similar vibes
-bullying
-murder
-protective male lead
-independent FL
-harsh topic

Differences:

My Name:
-K-drama
-Fl was a part of a gang
-FL was a double agent (police officer/gang member)
-ML was a detective
-Adult life

Better Days:
-Criminals
-More of high school
- A lot more romance

It can be compared to " Our times " in the aspects like youth, passion , a life changing incident and love. Even though both of them have a different messages to convey, the cast in both the movies are exceptionally good which makes it worth watching. it was like they lived through the characters , i am damn sure that at least one of the scenes might have made an impression on you on different ways of viewing life. it is just a suggestion of mine.
watch it or not depends on you. a wonderful portrayal of lives awaits you. =)
HAPPY WATCHING!!!

The main characters have suffered trauma and are emotionally and physically damaged. ML doesn't value his own life much and comes across as a tough character at first but later has the softest heart toward the FL. Hopeful ending, despite all the suffering. Also similar tones and city night scenes.

The romance is kind of similar. The Ml in both films they both act tough and rebellious, but they really care about the people they love. They both want to be close to people but have a hard time because of things that happened in their past. Both the MLs have to act as if they don't care about the FLs in order to protect them.
